What happened in 2024?

2024 has been an important year for Saab, marked by significant developments across various sectors. January - March

Review 2024 | January

End of January, Sweden and France have expressed their desire to strengthen their defence co-operation under a new strategic partnership signed on 30 January as part of French President Emmanuel Macron's state visit to Sweden. Anti-tank and air defence have been identified as priority areas for co-operation.

In February, Saab has received an order for the anti-armour weapon AT4 from the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA). The order value is approximately EUR 63 million (approximately SEK 700 million) and deliveries will take place 2026-2027.

Saab has received an order from Airbus Defence and Space for the Arexis Electronic Warfare (EW) sensor suite. The contract period is 2024-2026.

Arpil - June

Review 2024 | April

In April, Saab has delivered another GlobalEye Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) aircraft to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), marking the delivery of the fourth advanced AEW&C aircraft to the UAE in just four years. The UAE has ordered a total of five GlobalEye aircraft from Saab.

End of May, the Belgian air traffic service provider Skeyes recently unveiled its Digital Tower Test Centre in Steenokkerzeel, Belgium, based on Saab’s digital air traffic management technology.

Saab, as the first major defence company, received in June the approval for its 2050 targets for greenhouse gas emission reductions by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

July - September

Review 2024 | July

On 9 July, Saab received an order from the Lithuanian Ministry of Defence (MoD) for deliveries of Saab’s Mobile Short Range Air Defence (MSHORAD) solution. MSHORAD is Saab’s mobile air defence solution. The system consists of the Mobile Radar Unit based on the Giraffe 1X radar, the Mobile Firing Unit based on the RBS 70 NG, all connected with Saab’s GBAD C2 system.

End of August, Saab received an order from the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) for the Giraffe 1X radar for one of Sweden’s Ground Based Air Defence (GBAD) solutions. The order includes Saab’s Giraffe 1X radar, associated command and control systems and integration to a Swedish GBAD solution. The radar will be installed on a Sisu GTP armoured vehicle.

In September, Saab participated in REPMUS 2024, the Robotic Experimentation and Prototyping Maritime Unmanned Systems exercise organised by the Portuguese Navy.

October - December

Review 2024 | October

Saab announces the launch of Sirius Compact L20C, a highly mobile, passive sensor designated for tactical reconnaissance of communication signals.

Begin of November, Saab presented Autonomous Ocean Core, a ready-to-use autonomous control system to provide autonomy capabilities to surface and subsurface naval platforms in military and civilian missions.

The Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson have signed a strategic partnership agreement focusing on security, defense, and economic cooperation. The agreement, signed in Sweden end of this year in November, emphasized a "Navy Policing" initiative to secure the Baltic Sea and addressed regional threats, including Russian aggression and sabotage of critical infrastructure.
